About Orthodox Easter

Easter as kept by the Orthodox churches, often on a different Sunday from Western Easter.

In 2027 it falls on a Sunday; in 2028 it’s on Sunday 16 April, and in 2029 on Sunday 8 April. Also in May 2027: World Tuna Day (2 May), Teachers’ Day (Bhutan) (2 May) and World Press Freedom Day (3 May). From this page you can add it to your calendar, get an email before it, share the countdown, or show it full screen.

How we work out the date
Orthodox churches work out the date with the Julian calendar, so it’s often later than Western Easter.
Good to know
Western churches use the Gregorian computus for Easter; Orthodox churches use the Julian one.
