About Easter

Easter is the most important Christian festival, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. Many families also mark it with chocolate eggs and egg hunts.

In 2027 it falls on a Sunday; in 2028 it’s on Sunday 16 April, and in 2029 on Sunday 1 April. Also in March 2027: Clocks go forward (UK and Europe) (28 Mar), International Saucisson's Day (28 Mar) and Teachers’ Day (Czech Republic) (28 Mar). From this page you can add it to your calendar, get an email before it, share the countdown, or show it full screen.

How we work out the date
Western churches celebrate on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March, worked out from the church’s tables (the computus). We calculate it the same way.
Good to know
Orthodox churches use the Julian calendar for this, so their Easter is often later.
Sources

Calculated with the Gregorian computus, the method churches use.
