What Days Until keeps, why, who else is involved, and how to take it all back. Written in plain words. Last updated 25 October 2026.
The short version
- You can use Days Until without an account. Then everything stays in your browser.
- With an account we keep your email, your countdowns and what you add to them, so they’re on every device.
- No ads, no selling data, no tracking across other sites, and no AI reading your countdowns.
- One cookie keeps you signed in. Anything optional waits for your yes.
- You can download everything we keep, or delete your account and all of it, from your Profile.
What we keep if you have an account
- Your email address, to sign you in with a link and send the reminders you ask for. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your email, name and picture.
- Your profile, if you fill it in: a name, a picture, a short line about you, a public handle, and your birthday if you choose to share it with friends.
- Your countdowns and what you add: dates, notes, checklists, private notes, a time capsule letter, a message to send at zero and the addresses it goes to, photos you upload to a group countdown, chat in group countdowns, RSVPs and votes.
- Reminders: your reminder choices, quiet hours, and, if you turn on notifications, your browser’s push address (a link from Google, Mozilla, Microsoft or Apple that only works for sending to that browser).
- Connections you choose: a calendar address you paste in, and, for two-way sync, the access Google or Microsoft give us to your Days Until calendar.
- Your signed-in devices: the browser and system name (like “Edge on Windows”) and when you signed in, so you can see them and sign them out.
- Your settings, only if you choose “Keep my settings on every device”.
Without an account, if you ask for an email before a public event or follow someone’s countdown, we keep that email to send those reminders, and every email has a link to stop them.
We count how often each public event page is opened, per day, with nothing about who opened it. Rate limits remember internet addresses for a few minutes, in memory, to stop abuse; they aren’t stored.
What stays on your device
Your settings, your card designs, countdowns you make before signing in, photos you add to your own countdowns, recently viewed events, your watch party name and your cookie choices are kept in this browser’s storage. They don’t leave it unless you sign in and choose to keep them on your account. Settings › Advanced shows how much is stored, and clearing the site’s data in your browser removes it.
Other services involved
These help run the site. Each gets only what it needs for its job.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores account data (in its D1 database).
- Resend sends sign-in links and reminder emails; it sees the address and the email.
- Cloudflare Email Routing receives emails you forward to make a countdown.
- Google and Microsoft, only if you sign in with Google or connect a calendar.
- Open-Meteo (weather on trip countdowns), OpenStreetMap (place search and leave-by travel times), Wikimedia (event photos and On this day). Your browser or our server asks them for a place or a date, not who you are. Event photos load without cookies, so Wikimedia can’t set or read any.
- jsDelivr serves the ticket-scanning and video tools when you use them; the scanning and video-making happen in your browser.
- Plausible and Sentry, only with your yes, as above.
What other people can see
A countdown you share can be opened by anyone with its link, unless you make it private (invite only). Group members can see each other’s names, RSVPs and chat. Watch party chat on event pages is seen by everyone on that page at the time, isn’t saved, and disappears when everyone leaves. Community countdowns and public templates are public by design.
How long things are kept
- Sign-in links work once, for 15 minutes. Sign-ins last 30 days.
- Deleted countdowns stay in your bin for 30 days, then are deleted for good, photos included.
- Group chat keeps the last 300 messages per countdown.
- Everything else stays until you delete it or your account.
Your choices and rights
In your Profile you can download everything we keep in one file, sign out other devices, and delete your account with everything you made. You can also ask us to correct or delete anything, or ask what we hold, by writing to us. Depending on where you live (for example the UK, the EU or California), you have these rights by law, and you can complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Anyone can use Days Until without an account. Accounts are for people aged 13 and over. Calm mode and the For children preset are there for families using it together.
