About Days Until
A free website for counting down to the moments people wait for: holidays, festivals, the sky, and your own birthdays, trips and deadlines.
What it is
Days Until answers one question in plain words: how long until the thing you’re waiting for? It counts down to 1981 public events, from Christmas and Diwali to meteor showers and national days, and to anything of your own. You can share a countdown, count down with a group, chat, vote and celebrate together at zero.
Where the dates come from
Fixed dates are fixed. Moving dates, like Easter, Diwali or Eid, are worked out with published rules and checked against official sources; some, like Eid, still wait on a moon sighting, and we say so. Sky events come from astronomical calculations. Public holidays for 200+ countries come from the open date-holidays project. How we calculate dates explains each method, and every event page lists its sources. If a date is wrong, tell us.
How we build it
- Plain words first. “Diwali is 23 days away.” Not a grid of numbers.
- Accessible. Large text, high contrast, calm mode, keyboard and screen reader support, and checks against WCAG 2.2 AA.
- Private. No ads, no tracking, no selling data, and nothing optional without your yes. See Privacy.
- No AI. Quick add, email import and ticket scanning use rules and classic text recognition, not AI.
- Honest. Photos are credited, uncertain dates are labelled, and nothing is made up.
Free, and how
Days Until is free to use, with no ads. It runs on free plans: Cloudflare for hosting and data, Resend for email. If it ever needs to cost money, that will be said here first.

Event photos are from Wikimedia Commons; each one names its photographer and licence. Weather is from Open-Meteo, maps and travel times from OpenStreetMap, and On this day from Wikipedia.
