About St Brigid’s Day

Ireland’s newest public holiday, honouring Saint Brigid and the start of spring in the Irish calendar (Imbolc).

In 2027 it falls on a Monday; in 2028 it’s on Monday 7 February, and in 2029 on Monday 5 February. Because it’s a Monday this time, wherever it’s a day off it makes a long weekend of at least three days. Also in February 2027: World Wetlands Day (2 Feb), Groundhog Day (2 Feb) and Candlemas (2 Feb). From this page you can add it to your calendar, get an email before it, share the countdown, or show it full screen.

How we work out the date
The holiday is the first Monday of February, or 1 February itself when that’s a Friday.
