About Christmas

Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus and is also widely kept as a cultural holiday, with gifts, decorations and a family meal.

In 2026 it falls on a Friday; in 2027 it’s on Saturday 25 December, and in 2028 on Monday 25 December. Because it’s a Friday this time, wherever it’s a day off it makes a long weekend of at least three days. Also in December 2026: Christmas Eve (24 Dec), National Pumpkin Pie Day (25 Dec) and Boxing Day (26 Dec). From this page you can add it to your calendar, get an email before it, share the countdown, or show it full screen.

How we work out the date
It’s on 25 December every year.
Good to know
Many Orthodox churches, which follow the Julian calendar, celebrate on 7 January.
