About Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year starts the year in the Chinese and other lunisolar calendars. It’s celebrated across East and Southeast Asia and around the world with family reunions, red decorations and lion dances. 2027 is the Year of the Goat.

In 2027 it falls on a Saturday; we add later years once their dates are published. Also in February 2027: Constitution Day (Mexico) (5 Feb), Waitangi Day (6 Feb) and Ice Cream for Breakfast Day (6 Feb). From this page you can add it to your calendar, get an email before it, share the countdown, or show it full screen.

How we work out the date
It falls on the second new moon after the December solstice, between 21 January and 20 February.
Good to know
Countries reckon the new moon in their own time zone, so the date can differ by a day between them.
