Peak night; the year's strongest shower

About Geminid meteor shower

The Geminids are often the strongest meteor shower of the year, with up to about 120 meteors an hour at the peak under ideal skies. They come from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon.

In 2026 it falls on a Sunday; we add later years once their dates are published. Also in December 2026: Jamhuri Day (12 Dec), St Lucia’s Day (13 Dec) and Monkey Day (14 Dec). From this page you can add it to your calendar, get an email before it, share the countdown, or show it full screen.

How we work out the date
The peak comes around 13 to 14 December each year.
