About Day of the Dead

Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, is celebrated in Mexico and across Latin America on 1 and 2 November. Families build ofrendas, altars with marigolds, photos and favourite foods, to honour loved ones who have died.

In 2026 it falls on a Monday; in 2027 it’s on Tuesday 2 November, and in 2028 on Thursday 2 November. Also in November 2026: National Deviled Egg Day (2 Nov), National Pico de Gallo Day (2 Nov) and US Election Day (3 Nov). From this page you can add it to your calendar, get an email before it, share the countdown, or show it full screen.

How we work out the date
It’s on 1 and 2 November every year. We count down to 2 November.
